The Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation has partnered with the Halton District School Board to assist in the relief effort following the most devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan’s history. The Foundation is keen to support students and schools in the effected areas of Japan.
A launch of this initiative will take place at Tiger Jeet Singh Public School on Wednesday, April 20th during an assembly scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. This event will provide hope in the wake of this disaster.

Tiger Jeet Singh’s connection to Japan is longstanding. He has spent the majority of his 45-year wrestling career in Japan and his son Tiger Jr. made his professional debut close to twenty years ago in Tokyo. Both fondly refer to Japan as their second home and have also held the country, and even more so the children of Japan, in a special place in their hearts. That is why this event focuses on the students’ contribution along with corporate support to provide emergency supplies and relief to help those young lives following this disaster.
The Foundation will provide Halton schools with customized red and white wrist bands symbolizing the colours of the Canadian and Japanese flags, and decorated in a manner to demonstrate support for the students in Japan. There will be an inscription of “KIDZ 4 KIDZ – United We Rise” illustrating the children supporting one another and paying tribute to the Japanese flag of the ‘Rising’ Sun. There will also be a Japanese inscription, which translated means “We Pray for Japan”. The bands will be sold for $5 in Halton Region first, but will also be offered across Canada and internationally to support the campaign. The Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation is actively seeking corporate donations to support the student efforts as well.

Background:
On March 11th, Japan was struck with a 9.0 earthquake; among the world’s most powerful recorded in history. This impact triggered a destructive tsunami and later a breach of containment at multiple nuclear sites. The coast has since been hit by more than 150 aftershocks, most recently another 7.1 magnitude earthquake.
The effects of these disasters have displaced Japanese families, separating them from their loved ones. Now many are missing, fires have spread, buildings destroyed, towns wiped out and over millions left without water and electricity. Of the half a million people displaced, one hundred thousand are reportedly children. Their schools were either destroyed or converted into make shift shelters.
