Brampton Mayor Susan Fennel, Wrestling’s Living Legend Tiger Jeet Singh, City Councillor Vicky Dhillon and Bollywood singing sensation RDB swung to the beat, at the weekend’s TigerFest, held in Brampton, Ontario.

While the day saw a number of entertainment events, the real highlight was – given Tiger Jeet Singh’s background – wrestling action. The wrestling was greeted with tremendous enthusiasm by the huge crowds and was brought to a climax during the main event, where over 10,000 Tiger-Maniacs watched as Tiger’s son Tiger Ali Singh and tag team partner Shawn Daivari had their hands raised in victory. Both Mayor Fennel and Tiger Jeet Singh presented the two former WWE Superstars with the championship trophy.

Earlier Tiger Jeet Singh was presented with a sword by Lachman Singh Aujla, a retired officer of the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Aujla who is 100 years old, is a distant relative to Tiger. There were many local MP’s and MPP’s in attendance as well as international dignitaries that travelled from all over the globe to be part of TigerFest including the Prince of Dubai. Prior to the start of the wrestling, Federal Minister of Labour Lisa Riatt, along with Member of Parliament Parm Gill and Federal Sports Minister Bob Gosal delivered a message of ‘Greetings’ from the Prime Minister of Canada.

TIGERFEST, a charity wrestling exhibition and free Top 40 concert, took place in Chinguacousy Park on Saturday, September 24th, and took Brampton by storm! Scotiabank, Century 21 New Star Realty and Royal Park Homes were the presenting sponsors for this exciting family event.

TIGERFEST, previously held in Milton, has been proven to attract a diverse audience and it was hoped the event would appeal to Brampton’s quickly growing South East Asian community. The event did not disappoint, with well over 20,000 people attending. The Park was shut down later in the day in order to manage the large crowds already inside, so spectators took to the streets, standing on over turned iron garbage bins to try and catch a glimpse of the spectacle.

Starting off the festivities was the Tiger’s High School Challenge which was made up of two teams comprised of students from Central Peel High School and wrestling superstars. This truly became an instant fan favorite with the team of WWE Legend Tatanka, Tiger Ali Singh and two Central Peel students winning the event after they pushed a school bus across the finish line in record time.

8,000 fans rocked to the beat as Canadian recording artist Prita Chhabra took to the stage and was followed up by Bollywood singing sensations and Brampton Brand Ambassadors RDB and Nindy Kaur. RDB flew in the night before from England to make a special guest appearance.

$45,000 was raised in support of the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation initiatives and throughout the campaign awareness was raised for the Japan Relief, Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health & Wellness and Salvation Army.

“We are truly grateful to Mayor Susan Fennell and the City to host this year’s TIGERFEST in Brampton,” explains Tiger Jr., President of the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation. “The primary objective of TIGERFEST is to promote our youth to stay away from drugs by leading an active & healthy lifestyle and promoting unity among our diverse cultures. The support and reception we received from the City, fans, sponsors and our entertainers was overwhelming.”

“TigerFest was an extremely successful event that brought together thousands of Bramptonians for a day of family fun”, said Mayor Susan Fennell. “I would like to thank Tiger Jeet Singh and Tiger Jr. for bringing this event to Brampton. Once again, Brampton has established itself as a world class city capable of hosting world-class event.”
