PETERBOROUGH, ON, Canada – When he came to learn that his friend was in need of support, there was no hesitation on the part of former WWE Superstar Tiger Jeet Singh Jr. to accept the invitation to attend the 2nd Annual Birdies 4 Breast Cancer charity golf tournament in Peterborough, Ontario on Friday, August 21st at Liftlock Golf Club.

The tournament is being held in honour of the Tiger’s dear friend Denise MacDonald-Johnson, who at the age of 50 is battling Stage 4 breast cancer. Denise met Tiger and his family through her husband Kirk Johnson, a holistic therapist. Kirk’s health-giving work with the family engendered him as part of the close-knit Tiger Jeet Singh family. Following the thread of whole health and wellness, Denise became involved with the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation’s annual charity toy drive ‘Miracle on Main Street’, joining the Tiger family during their visit to McMaster Children’s Hospital last December 2014, as ambassador, photographer, and real-life survivor after surviving her own ordeal with cancer only months prior. Unfortunately, Denise’s cancer has returned in a rare complication confining her to hospital in her hometown, Peterborough, Ontario.

Tiger and his father, wrestling’s living legend Tiger Jeet Singh are now extending the invite to all their wrestling fans and friends living in the area to come out and support their friend and other women battling breast cancer.

The tournament is being organized by Denise’s sister, Janet Mahood, with the help and support of other family members including a third sister Brenda and their parents Hayward and Margaret MacDonald.

Mahood started this tournament last year when Denise was first diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, a less common and very aggressive form of breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy and underwent high dose chemotherapy treatment in the hopes of destroying the cancer. Unfortunately, this year they found out the cancer has metastasized.

Mahood stated the objective is to raise funds for others diagnosed with breast cancer who may need assistance during treatment and recovery. The proceeds go to a bursary program administered in cooperation with My Left Breast, a business and support system in Peterborough, and their suppliers, to provide the basic essentials to those who cannot afford them.

Through her surgery and treatment process, Denise was introduced to My Left Breast, which also offers emotional support and access to other local groups and organizations.

Mahood stated wigs, specialized clothing and various other post-mastectomy items were quite costly and crucial during the treatment and healing process. While prosthesis devices were at least partially covered by the government, the only coverage for other items was through private insurance, she stated.

“Your support is an opportunity to directly and positively impact women with cancer in the Peterborough and surrounding area and to ease their burden during the healing process,’’ she stated.
