Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation for contributing to the deepening of friendship with Japan

On Feb. 25, Consul-General of Japan in Toronto SASAYAMA Takuya conferred the Consul-General’s Commendation to the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation in an online ceremony. This Commendation is in recognition of the Foundation’s contributions toward strengthening friendship with Japan, including its support of relief efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011.

The Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation is a Canadian-based charity founded in 2010 by the celebrated professional wrestling legends, humanitarians, and philanthropists Tiger Jeet Singh and his son, Tiger Ali Singh. The Foundation’s core mandate is to promote inclusion and provide funding for public school initiatives such as mental health, family wellness, literacy, scholarships, breakfast programs and inclusive classrooms. Its many philanthropic activities are widely recognized in Canada.

Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the Foundation worked with the Halton District School Board to raise $20,000 for children affected by the disaster.

Furthermore, Mr. Tiger Ali Singh made a surprise announcement during the conferment ceremony that the Foundation is donating an additional $20,000 for children still affected in the region.

Mr. Tiger Jeet Singh has been celebrated as a wrestler in Japan since 1973 when he first arrived in the country and quickly gained popularity. He contributed greatly to the growth and success of professional wrestling in Japan.

Congratulatory messages on the commendation were received from Mr. Adam van Koeverden, Member of Parliament for Milton; Mr. Parm Gill, Member of Provincial Parliament for Milton; His Worship Gord Krantz, Mayor of Milton; His Worship Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton; Halton Regional Police Chief Stephen Tanner; and Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.

Toronto, ON – During his years wrestling in Japan, Tiger Jeet Singh was one of the biggest wrestling villains the country had ever seen. On Thursday, February 26, the country presented the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation – the charity founded by Singh and his son, former WWE superstar Tiger Ali Singh – with the Consul-General’s Commendation in recognition of its contributions toward strengthening friendship with Japan, including its support of relief efforts following the 2011 earthquake.
