Tokyo, Japan – April 29, 2024 – The Japanese government announced on Monday that former professional wrestler Tiger Jeet Singh has been confirmed to be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, as part of the Spring 2024 Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. It is the highest honour the Japanese government can bestow on a foreigner.

October 18, 2022 – A prestigious ceremony and reception was held at the official residence of Honourable Sasayama Takuya, Consul-General of Japan in Toronto Canada where the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation was presented to wrestling legend and philanthropist Tiger Jeet Singh in recognition for Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation’s support of the displaced children as the result of the Fukushima nuclear disaster 11 years ago on March 11, 2011.

It is a rare and beautiful recognition for an extraordinary individual and the community. Members of the Tiger family and foundation were in attendance along with Hon. Smt. Apoorva, Srivastva, Consul-General of India, His Worship Milton Mayor Gord Krantz, His Worship Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Chief of Peel Regional Police Nishan Durriappah, Members from Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce and the Toronto Japanese Association of Commerce.

In a sign of respect for the recent passing of Japanese wrestling legend and Tiger’s friend Mr. Antonio Inoki, both Tiger Jeet Singh and Tiger Jr wore Inoki’s trademark red scarf during the ceremony. There was also a moment of silence held in his honour.
