The accolades keep coming for Tiger Jeet Singh. Just a few weeks after he and son Tiger Ali Singh received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the elder Tiger has been honoured yet again.

This time it’s his fellow Canadians who recognized the retired pro wrestler and philanthropist, through online voting for the fourth annual Top 25 Canadian Immigrants.

The awards program — which drew tens of thousands of Canadian voters this time around — is a joint venture between Canadian Immigrant magazine and RBC.

Recap by Bob Kapur of SLAM! Wrestling

Throughout his legendary career, Tiger Jeet Singh faced off against a number of hard opponents. On Saturday, he faced one of his toughest yet in the form of Mother Nature. With help from a number of tag team partners, he was able to come up with another victory, ensuring that Tiger Fest 2011, his annual wrestling fundraiser show, was a major success.

The wrestling show was scheduled to be held at an open air venue in downtown Milton, Ontario. The lot, owned by Troy’s Diner, had been converted into a makeshift arena, with bleachers set up around the ring where the evening’s event was going to take place. Unfortunately, rain had been falling all afternoon, and the rumblings of thunder in the distance put the show in jeopardy. Consequently, with less than two hours to belltime, the event’s organizers made the call to move the show indoors.

On Saturday, June 4th as part of Milton’s Downtown Street Festival, Tigers Wrestle Fest will return by popular demand presented by Scotia Bank.

While the Milton Street Festival has been taking place over the past four years attracting between 20,000 to 30,000 visitors each year, this number was blown away last year, due in part to the addition of the inaugural Tigers Wrestle Fest with over 50,000 people attending.

Proceeds from Tiger Fest 2011 will go towards the Japan Relief Campaign, supporting the Salvation Army, Halton Learning Foundation and visiting children at McMaster Children’s Hospital. (more…)
